Don't let your bitcoin die with you.

Self-custody is powerful. But it doesn't solve inheritance.

Without clear documentation and a valid will, your family may not be able to access your bitcoin — and it will be distributed under default State rules.

My Bitcoin Will is a Bitcoin-first DIY will starter kit that helps you close that gap, privately and correctly.

Includes: bitcoin-aware will template + letter of wishes + asset inventory + technical roadmap + bonus educational material

*inclusive of a 10% discount when paid in bitcoin, fiat price US$109

Self-custody solves theft.
Not inheritance.

You've done the responsible thing and taken custody of your bitcoin. But self-custody protects your assets while you're alive. It does not automatically ensure they can be recovered and transferred when you're gone.

Failure mode 1: The technical gap

Getting self-custody right is the first milestone, but making sure your loved ones can actually access it is just as critical. Without clear, practical instructions, your bitcoin doesn't get passed on — it simply disappears with you.

Failure mode 2: The legal gap

Even with a perfect technical roadmap, without a valid will the State decides who receives your bitcoin — not you. Your wishes become irrelevant the moment you die without a legally recognised will.

Failure mode 3: The education gap

Wealth transfer isn't just about access. It's about ensuring the next generation understands what they've inherited — and how not to compromise it through panic, ignorance or bad actors.

What's inside the My Bitcoin Will Starter Kit?

Everything you need to bridge the gap between code and law.

1
The legal foundation

Bitcoin-aware will template

A clear, court-ready legal framework that ensures your bitcoin is formally recognised as part of your estate, using precise language that executors and probate courts can easily understand and enforce.

2
The personal directive

Letter of wishes (private guidance)

A private document for your executor to guide them on specific wishes — from funeral arrangements to personal requests — that don't belong in a public will.

3
The master map

Digital asset inventory

A comprehensive document so nothing is overlooked. Document your digital assets so your executor knows what exists, without having to go on a digital scavenger hunt.

4
The access blueprint

Technical recovery roadmap

This provides the specific information your loved ones or executor need to actually access your bitcoin. It bridges the gap between knowing it exists and having the ability to recover it. Works for single-sig, multisig and collaborative custody.

5
The strategic guardrail

Executor & beneficiary education pack

Self-custody is a responsibility. This pack ensures your heirs understand the basics of bitcoin security and who to contact to implement your wishes, preventing irreversible mistakes or panic selling.

3 steps to peace of mind

Secure your legacy in one day.

1

Instant access

Purchase the kit and get immediate access to all editable templates, documents, and guides. No waiting for physical shipping and no third-party access to your sensitive information. Total privacy from the start.

2

Amend the templates

Use the companion guide together with the extensive in-document commentary to adapt and complete the templates to suit your unique circumstances. The robust legal and technical foundation is already established — simply follow the guided prompts, enter your details, conduct your digital asset inventory, and define your technical recovery protocol.

3

Sign, secure & relax

Follow the included instructions to ensure your will is properly signed and witnessed. Store your documents securely and make sure your trusted executor can follow the technical roadmap when needed. With that, your bitcoin is no longer dependent on you — it's built to outlast you.

Is this you?

If you hold bitcoin in self-custody and haven't put a plan in place for what happens after you're gone, this was built for you.

🔐

Self-custody holders with no will

You've secured your bitcoin with a hardware wallet or multisig, but haven't documented how your family can access it if something happens to you.

👨‍👩‍👧

Parents who hold bitcoin for their kids

You're stacking sats for the next generation, but without a clear inheritance plan those coins could be lost forever if you're not around to hand them over.

🔑

Bitcoiners whose partner doesn't understand private keys

Your spouse or partner knows you own bitcoin but wouldn't know a seed phrase from a passphrase. This starter kit bridges that knowledge gap so they can actually access your bitcoin when you're gone.

📜

Holders with an outdated or bitcoin-blind will

You might already have a will, but if it doesn't specifically account for how your bitcoin moves from you to your beneficiaries, your sats are still at risk.

Meet Dale Warburton

Dale Warburton — Founder of My Bitcoin Will

As Managing Mentor at Bitcoin Mentor Australia and host of The Why Bitcoin Show, I spend my days helping people understand Bitcoin and, increasingly, what happens to it after they're gone.

Through that work, I kept hearing the same question:

"If something happens to me, how do I make sure my bitcoin actually gets to my family?"

People were holding bitcoin in self-custody with no bitcoin-aware will, no clear starting point, and no desire to pay thousands to a lawyer who doesn't get Bitcoin, let alone self-custody.

As a trained lawyer who teaches bitcoin self-custody best practices, I built My Bitcoin Will to close the gap between the technical side (hardware wallets, seed phrases, self-custody) and the legal side that gives effect to your wishes when it matters most.

⚠️ This is not legal advice. Consider professional advice from a solicitor in your jurisdiction for your specific circumstances and complexity.

No. This kit is not legal advice and Dale Warburton is not acting as your lawyer. The Bitcoin Will Starter Kit is an educational, self-guided resource to help you think through and document how your bitcoin and other digital assets can be inherited. It provides templates, documents and guides so you're not starting from a blank page, but it does not take into account your specific circumstances, local laws or tax position. Nothing in the kit, on this website, or in any communications from me creates a solicitor-client or attorney-client relationship. You are responsible for checking your own local laws and, where needed, getting advice from a qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction. Bitcoin self-custody embodies personal responsibility - and when it comes to setting up your own will, it's no different.
No. This kit is designed for simple estates where someone wants to get the process started and document their bitcoin inheritance plan properly. If you have complex trusts, multiple jurisdictions, or contested family situations, you should consult a professional solicitor. If in doubt, consult a local professional. The kit is the foundation - your lawyer can help you finalise and execute from there.
Currently, the legal templates in the My Bitcoin Will Starter Kit are specifically optimised for Australia only. We will soon expand the offering to Bitcoiners in the United States, Canada, and the UK, and thereafter, other jurisdictions. Be sure to register your interest if your jurisdiction is not currently catered for.
Yes. My Bitcoin Will is designed to be setup-agnostic. Whether you use a single hardware wallet, a 2-of-3 multisig, or collaborative custody, the kit prompts you to document the logic so your beneficiaries aren't left guessing.
Absolutely not. My Bitcoin Will is a DIY kit of templates and guides. You fill them out locally on your own machine, and any private key material or seed phrases must ALWAYS be completed by hand - never digitally. We never see, touch, or store your sensitive data. You maintain 100% self-sovereignty.
Yes. The kit is a one-off purchase and you'll receive editable documents you can update whenever your situation changes - new wallets, different exchanges, multisig changes, or new beneficiaries. You stay in control and can revise things as often as you need to.
If you change your mind about who should receive your assets or in what proportions, you need to update your Will. The My Bitcoin Will Starter Kit makes it easier to revisit your decisions and adjust them over time, but any change to your wishes should be reflected in a properly updated and signed Will, and, where relevant, your Digital Asset Inventory, Letter of Wishes and Technical Roadmap.
That's very common, and the kit is designed with that in mind. As long as you properly complete the Digital Asset Inventory and Technical Roadmap (or its equivalent) your family or executors don't need to be Bitcoin experts. The idea is to give them a clear, step-by-step way to start the recovery process, and to know who to contact or what to follow, rather than leaving them with jargon and guesswork.
The kit is optimised for self-custody (hardware wallets, multisig, etc.), because that's where traditional wills and templates usually fail. It can also cover assets held on exchanges, but keeping significant bitcoin on an exchange is not recommended from a security and counterparty-risk perspective. If you do hold coins on an exchange, the kit helps you document what's there and how it can be accessed or moved as part of your overall plan.
Your beneficiaries living in another country doesn't usually affect whether your will is valid, but it can affect taxation, the practicalities of accessing assets, and how long the process takes. These cross-border issues are very fact-specific, so you should discuss them with a lawyer or tax professional in your jurisdiction if they apply to you.
This is a Bitcoin business designed for Bitcoiners, however the product is designed to accommodate other digital assets and online accounts. You can use the My Bitcoin Will Starter Kit to organise information about other cryptocurrencies, important online accounts (email, social media, domains, etc.). The same principles apply: clear instructions for trusted people, without exposing sensitive credentials in the Will itself.
It depends on whether your existing will is up to date and specifically accounts for the transfer of bitcoin from you to your beneficiaries. Most traditional wills don't address self-custodied bitcoin at all - they were written before your hardware wallet existed. If your will isn't recent, or if you've undergone significant life events (marriage, children, new custody setup) since it was drafted, the My Bitcoin Will kit can help you close that gap. However, if you already have a recent, valid will that properly accounts for your bitcoin holdings and how they transfer to your beneficiaries, you may not need this kit - though a strategy session with Dale can help you confirm whether that's truly the case.
Absolutely. The kit includes fully editable documents that you can update whenever your situation changes - whether that's a new wallet, a change in beneficiaries, a move to multisig, or any other life event. Just remember: any changes to your will itself should be properly re-signed and witnessed according to the laws in your jurisdiction.
